in a website tdiclub.com, dedicated to vw tdi discussions, there is a list of "trusted mechnics" for each state.  although it's for tdi cars, but most likely those shops service jap's cars too.  i found the list wss very good.  i followed that and had my mb repaired at one of them.  indeed the mechanic close to me was very honest and price was very reasonable. 
you might go there to find one in your area.
