Guess you did opposit

you twisted the sensor making the circuit short, that told CPU that the pad had been worn to the point of change and your panel would indicate so.  Didn't the "brake drum" light come on now? (notice it's not "brake" but "brake drum" - these are two different lights).  Probably what you did was exactly opposit.
