those tdi engines in years of 05-06, there was a notorious problem - cam lobe wear.  it typically costs about $1000 to fix.  for model year 09-11, there is a new big problem - HPFP failure; could cost couple thousnads to repair.  the manufacturer knew the problem but didn't fix it.

if you love diesel, stay with mercedes.
