although it might still keep going, in case you are not a diy person, all kind of problems will come up to bite you, and emission test could drive you nuts.  as you are aware that euro cars are expensive to maintain, $300-500 or up is a norm on even a small fix.  to make life simpler, if too many problems exist now, drop it and move on.
