96 Nissan Maxima SE timing chain tensioner replacement

It has been a very nice car. Recently, the timing chain area gives grinding noise. More so during cold start and at low speed. No noise at highway speed. I think the timing chain tensioner has gone bad. It's a big job to replace.

Has anyone done this before? One shop in CA Bay area qave a quote of $1200.
