I think going electronics is the trend. No one can fight the trend. Why is it a trend? Because electroincs can be smarter. When you are smarter there are many advantages. One advantage is options.

I can understand mechanical engineering wants independence between various parts. This reduces complications like you said.

Toyota's problem is probably its engineers are thinking in the mechanical engineers traditional way.
