Depend on the condition of the car. Also check on Edmunds.com, use the lower price to bargain with the seller.

As far as I know, the trade-in price + (the private party price - the trade-in price)*2/3 is normally good for a Japanese used car. Of course, depend on the car condition, and the region the seller lives in.
