I agree with biglow

I used to get my tired repaired in a shop they use insetion method. Remove tire from the wheel won't be done if you only pay $20 or less because it is not worth.
For tricks Sears made, I tend to believe what people said as I no reason to double, it is true if no business the shop will cut off people or even close.
Tire quality is really depends. My original corolla tires ran ~30K, 2nd 80K tires run ~50K, then 3rd 85K tires run very good, I bought both at American Tires for free rotate. Once I have a nail casing leaking I sent for repair three times, and 3rd time they remove the wheel and then found a nail from inside.
