well, marketing folks will tell you that marketing is the center of the biz and finance guy will tell you the earth will not rotate without them, strategy professor will let you know up front that he is the one that leads everything.

consumer's choice might have something to do with marketing as they do make choice from the perceived value, you can certainly look at it from a lot of other aspects to know why consumer makes such choice and why certain company is dominant for now.

Company with a lot of innovations does deserve a lot of respects, however, it might not be the case in the market place no just depending on how to market such innovations. However, i do agree with bb's last comments. I thought bb has a ph d in math and some degree in finance so I was suggesting bb to go back to b school.工商管理硕士 is a marketing guy?:)
