2003年 Waterfall 火车翻车7人死亡

Another found alive: death toll down to seven

February 3 2003

The death toll from the Waterfall train disaster has been revised from eight to seven, NSW Police said today.

Authorities initially believed nine people had been killed when the four-car Tangara train ploughed into a sandstone wall near Waterfall, south of Sydney, last Friday.

That figure was scaled back to eight deaths on Saturday and today it was further reduced to seven after it was confirmed one of the people feared killed was still alive in a hospital.

"Two people initially believed missing and feared dead have been identified as among the seriously injured being treated in hospital," a NSW Police spokeswoman said.

"Further victim identification work over the weekend has resulted in a fatality count of seven.

"Determining the exact number of deaths is a complex task, obviously due to the extraordinary difficulties with disaster victim identification."
