Sheriff: Stanford student found dead at campus residence
Palo Alto firefighters found student unresponsive inside residence
The male student, whose name is not being released pending notification of next of kin, was found unresponsive inside the residence by the Palo Alto Fire Department, which pronounced him dead at about 10:21 a.m., according to a news release from the Santa Clara Sheriff’s Office.
While the investigation is ongoing, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that a preliminary investigation shows no sign of foul play. The Stanford Daily reported that the student was a sophomore and that he was found in the Theta Delta Chi house.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to the residence at about 11:20 a.m., in response to a report of a medical emergency, according to the news release. Palo Alto firefighters were already on scene.
Stanford Vice Provost of Student Affairs Susie Brubaker-Cole sent out a message to the university community on Friday, informing students, staff and faculty that an undergraduate student had died.
"We have been in touch with the student’s family this afternoon," Brubaker-Cole wrote. "While we are working to understand the family’s wishes, we are not in a position to share the student’s name.
"This is very difficult news for any family to bear. Our university community grieves with them."
