关于斯坦福AO问答的解释, 以及S录取的奥秘 (吐血奉献~~)

楼下提到现场对AO提问。问： 对斯坦福录取，上10门AP拿9个A/1个B好， 还是上8门AP拿8门A好？

AO答：We never admitted any student with a B on AP， in fact, not even with A.

为啥？因为AP只有4分5分，无A, B.  ---- Of course!

正确的答案是：Take 10 APs and get 5 on all!

从这个问答，看出S招生最关心啥(S的很多AO是S毕业生长期浸染于这种文化)

是EC么？NO
是GPA/SAT？ACT么？NO

答案：思维活力/活跃度 (intellectual vitality) - the ability of thinking out-of-box

intellectual vitality也是S多年的一个essay 题目.

一些名牌高中里录取进S的往往不是排名1，2，3的公认学霸(这些多数会被H，M，P招走)。被S录取的经常是排名6，7，8，10但思维特别活跃的孩子。

从S录取来说，AO拿到一个孩子的材料，很多数量指标已经按标准化算好了。轻瞄一眼，大致知道这孩子是个啥样了

当AO看完整份材料，如果印证到这娃与数量指标读后印象很一致(but nothing more)，那么很不幸，这娃录取的可能性也许不大了.

"Please surprise me (in a positive way) !" - That is what Stanford AO is looking for.

You have to have something amazingly interesting beyond the numbers. That's it.
