Soros Transfers $18B to Open Society Foundations
October 18, 2017
In what might be a sign of his advanced age, far-left liberal megadonor George Soros has transferred more wealth than the GPD of the 23 poorest nations on earth into his Open Society Foundations.
Last year, it was reported that Soros had been planning for the future of the organization he founded, as well as the investment firm that provides most of its funding, so it could continue beyond his death. The transfer—first reported Tuesday by The Wall Street Journal—of $18 billion not only gives OSF the bulk of Soros’ personal assets, but restructures the already formidable organization into a left-wing funding juggernaut.
Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, noted the immediate irony of the move:
There’s a much darker side to this story, though. With significantly less funding from Soros, OSF was already wreaking havoc upon democracies throughout Europe in an effort to prevent populist candidates at the ballot box. OSF skirted campaign finance laws by funneling its money through local entities.
In the U.S., OSF has been a major funding source for “opposition” and “resistance” groups ranging from Black Lives Matter to Occupy Wall Street, as well as open-borders groups opposing President Donald Trump’s immigration agenda. According to emails leaked during the 2016 presidential campaign, OSF also coordinated with Hillary Clinton’s campaign.
OSF now trails only the Bill and Linda Gates Foundation in the rankings of non-profit finances.
