这几乎是不可能的任务,可供我使用的时间其实只有五天(1/3-1/7).我实在不确定有没
有可能在截至日期之前办成护照及I94的更新.

-Bring the passport and the I-94 you just got, and your H1 approval notice to the CBP local deffered Inspection Office in your area or any port of entry near your city to see whether the CBP officer can change your I-94 duration. If no, you have to renewe your I-94 and try to see whether the CBP officer can change it for you again. You can try different the CBP offices/port of entry. If you can not change the I-94 from the CBP office or entry of port, you have to ask your employer to file the H1 extension before the I-94 expires or just go outside US and come back using the renewed passport to get a new I-94.

我具体有以下几个问题:

1)如果我下周直奔DC中国大使馆,有没有可能在1-3天内拿回更新过的护照?

-Contact the Chinese Embassy and tell them your situation to see whether they can help you. But you may try to use the old passport to the CBP office or port of entry to see whether they can fix your I-94 for you (talk to the CBP officer your situation and they may fix it for you).

2)有了新护照之后在境内如何更换I94?需要多久时间?

-See above.

3)有没有办法提出申请延期I94上的截至日期?

-See above.
4)如果提出申请,那Pending期间我能否合法地呆在美国工作?

-You can not work after the I-94 expires, but you have one month h1 grace period after the I-94 expires and you can stay in US legally in one month.

还有一个打算是很快拿着现有护照回国办理更新护照,然后拿着更新过的护照重新入境.

-Yes.

因为我担心如果在美国境内更新护照而又无法在1/9号之前拿回护照的话,我就陷入了死
循环:既没有护照出境,又不能合法呆在美国.

我假定到现在为止,我的签证(Visa)仍然是合法的,只要有了新护照本+老护照本上的H1B
Visa 就能再次顺利入境并获得合理的I94。

-You have leave US before the h1 I-94 expires so that yoru H1 visa can be valid. If your I-94 expires and you are still in US, your h1 visa is automatically invalid and you need to apply for the new h1 visa to enter US.
