released when anti-matter combines/collides/cancels out with matter. it is a few magnitudes more than nuclear reaction, although i don't know how accurate the claim that only a few grams can destroy earth is. and also, it would depend on one's definition of "destroying earth" -- all humans are killed? all life forms are wiped out? or the entire planet is turned to dust?
that probably refers to the energy ...
