I drove from Denali NP to Valdez via Denali Highway (route 8). The first 10 miles and the last 10 miles are paved. The middle (about 100 miles) are unpaved. My rental car was a minivan (Dodge Grand Caravan) and was able to drive with an average speed of 40 miles. You need to be careful though because it might be easy to get your windshield chipped.

The scenery is indeed beautiful, but I don't think it's a must-see.
