毛泽东原本命令 to 粟裕, 聂荣臻,林彪 were against Mao's military thought. Mao had his political consideration as to increase his bargaining chips with Jiang. More land, more bargaining power. When Lin withdrew from 四平, I didn’t see Mao severely criticized Lin for the withdrawal at that time or later.
Huang Ker-shing did criticize the wisdom of defending 四平. Mao said it was his decision. Huang replied, even it was Mao's decsion, it was wrong.
