Here's why:
1. He's a veteran. He was a prison of war for that matter. It means he's been there, done that. he knows what's it like. He doesn't need to prove to anyone he's tough and hardliner, as no one can dare challenging him on that.
2. He's a moderate republican, pro-business, pro-trade, and is by no means a religous extremist.
3. He's old. He doesn't have to try to stir up any ideological or witch-hunting for after-presidency career or legacy.
4. Tracking his comments and behavior over his senator years, you can see he's pretty consistent on where he stands, more consistent than any other active politians.
5. He is less lilkely to increase taxes. Most Chinese here are in the higher income brackets.
End of the day, whoever gets elected is an AMERICAN president. His job is to seek the most interests for Americans. Keep that in mind. No one is going to be a "friend" of China. The selection process for us is to see who would do the least damage to China, and us in the US. McCain seems to be the best bet.
John McCain would be the least damaing choice for us

he is old... might mean he has less ambitious. It makes sense.
