About domestic issues, US president in fact has no much

power as you thought, it is mostly up to the congress. Look at Bush’s 7 years, except Iraq war and relevant funding, lot of major reforms, Social security, Medicare, immigration, are still up to air. Even the affirmative action is still fighting in court. Don’t expect Obama or Clinton can make miracles on these issues except they can bring the troop back home sooner. Politicians can and will promise everything to get the votes.
