Did you file your 485, if yes, then there is nothing to worry even if you are unemployed for a while.If not, then only 140 won't be able to keep you in states with legal immigration status. You need to find another employer as soon as possible and transfer your current H1-B, no gap or grace period allowed I guess. Good luck.
