As I remember, the distance between BahirDar and Lalibela is about 300km, although it may take a whole day for the local bus (it took us 13 hours). There is usually no need to stop for a night in the middle.

On the other hand, the distance between Addis and Lalibela is about 700km. And people usually stop in between for a night.

In addition to the Lake Tana, there is also a waterfall nearby (30km away), the source of Blue Nile.
