4x4 snow chains are a little tricky.

The chains are usually put on the drive wheels. For front wheel drive cars, this means the chains should be put on the front wheels. For 4x4, check the owner's manual. It depends on the car. Some specifically says you can only put chains on the two designated wheels. I read somewhere sometime ago for certain cars putting four chains on may damage the drive system.
