The "threats" that Taiwan felt did not come from foreigners. The "threat" that Taiwan felt came from PRC. Unless you can open your blind eye to that fact, you'll never understand why, the more you try, the more Taiwan wants to leave. You'll also never understand why TI becomes morer and more popular. It is not because the idiots running DPP are smart or cute, but because numerous idiots from PRC think it is cool to make empty threats of violence, and that it was a fun ride with the CCP (who killed more Chinese than the foreigners) in charge.
