高岗misinterpreted Mao's intention. Mao criticized Liu, Chou, and Bo Yi-po very harshly but didn't mean to purge them at that time. Shouldn't have committed suicide and should have waited for Mao to return to Beijing.
You're right 高岗 还是嫩啊。Also 高's life style and pro Russian stance didn't help him either.
