塔山 is a world renowned 阻击战. Lin Piao just deployed 4纵, 11纵 and 2 independent 师( not 东北野战军’s crack forces) at 塔山. Amazingly 塔山 is not a mountain in its proper sense. It is almost a flatland. How did the defenders withstand aerial, naval, and human wave land attack were miraculous. If 塔山阻击战 failed, Lin Pioa’s reservation about attacking 锦州 would be justified.
