I don't understand why 老蒋 was so much against democracy. Yes, 老蒋 repented in Taiwan for loss of Mainland. But under him was still a rule of "White Horror". It was not until Chiang Ching-kuo came to power, Taiwan was on its way inching towards a true democracy.
