February 28, 2007 -- The feds plan to investigate whether exposure to a chemical commonly found in plastic products such as baby bottles and food containers causes health problems, officials said yesterday.
The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences will convene a panel of 15 scientists next week to review whether exposure to Bisphenol A causes developmental or reproductive harm.
In a separate study, Los Angeles-based Environment California said tests on five brands of baby bottles - Avent, Dr. Brown's, Evenflo, Gerber and Playtex - were found to leach enough of the chemical to harm animals.
