H1B延期问题: H1B已经四年半了， 想知道6年期满能否再延长！

因为各种原因，一直没有动手申请绿卡，直到最近有人说6年期满后，我得身份可能会有麻烦。有人说如果递交了140得情况下， H1B可以延长三年，如果根本没动手做任何关于绿卡申请的事情，我就必须离开美国，身份不能延长和转换。 请问是这样的吗？ 如果是，当务之急，我应该做什么？
