But I recently read on interne accidentally that his situation is NOT what I thought in the beginning and made me shame of myself:
1) He was not illegal immigrant as I thought who was desparate trying to make it in US. He had green card already and had stable and loving family
2) He joined the US army in 2006, the worst of time; He really wanted to go to Iraq battle
3) Before he joined US Army, he was already enrolled in college.
All these show that he was true volunteer. According to news reports, he had 2 wishes while in high school: become a soldier and US citizen.
I believe that he, like most of us, knew the risk of being in Army. He went ahead anyway. Call it whatever you want. IT IS COURAGE and BRAVITY. I admire him greatly
He also did something for all of Chinese Americans in US., which is rarely mentioned. That is, his action and sacrifice prove it wrong the stereotypes of Chinese Americans being not as patriotic as the rest of country
