I assume GPS would show Mountain Passes and other relevant info

Dont own one and have no intention to own one, as we like our paper maps for the easiness of it - if you know how to read them.

However, I think GPS would have shown the route conditions - such as it would go thru several mountain passes, and the geographic characters of the area the route passes thru... AND the Winter Road Closure information...

It could be up to the user to fully utilize all the data the GPS can display.
