It is religion-related. Indonesia, Thailand, India

all have this form of "suffering march". I am not sure if this relates to Hindu or not.

In fact, in certain parts of Europe people have similar type of such religion-related march - only that over there people similate the suffering of Christ.

It is crazy to me but I would not say they are 变态.
