Akashi Kaikyo Bridge is over the channel between the main island of Honshu and the southern island of Shikoku. I know it is not over a lake for sure. The channel is very wide, and the current is very rapid.

We visited the bridge in Spring of 2004. It is an Engineering Wonder for sure. There is a documentary about it, History (or may be Discovery) channel have aired it in many occasions. It is very convenient to go from Kobe. Anyone happens to be in that part of Japan, should visit it at least once.
Nearby there is a Memorial House and Garden devoted to Mr.Sun Yat-sen, donated by a wealthy Overseas-Chinese lives in Japan.
