to reach Camp Muir, base camp for summitting Mt Rainier. It has that erie feeling of Mt Everest base camp feel there, as you will see many Ranier climbers camped on the snow.

Camp Muir, at about 10,000 feet, is another 4400 feet of elevation gain from the top, alll ice and snow from here on. You have to be specially trained to summit Rainier. Comiing down from Camp Muir is relatively easier - 1/2 of the way I basically came down on my butt in snow. As you can see, it's important to have water proof pants when you come down.
