I said it in this forum many times that both Mao & Chiang were nationalists, believers in one China. If Chiang or his son Ching-kuo were to live 1 year longer, Taiwan could be another Special Administrative Region (SAR) like Hing Kong. Rumor was that Chiang Ching-kuo died for initiating the negotiation between the two parties. Who knows the real cause of Ching-kuo's death?
Also, too much credit was given to Deng for espousing the "original" notion of "one country two systems". WE all know that it was orginally from Mao's idea as it applied to Taiwan.
