I have always wondered why Mao wanted to "kill" Li and did not protect him in Cultural Revolution. Now I understand that it wasn't Mao's idea to purge Lim. At one time, Mao had such heated argument with Li about "how high is the sky and how dare is man " that Mao almost got into fist fight with him. Later Mao subtly apologized to Li.
