Thank God I’m a Country Boy－－想念John Denver

听他的歌我脑海中总会出现这样的背景：高高的洛基山脉，阳光满地。 万里晴空中，一只鹰在翱翔。

他就是洛基山上空的一只鹰。

1943年，小 Henry Deutschendorf 出生于美国西南部的新墨西哥州。 十多岁的时候奶奶送他一把吉他，而他从此迷恋上了音乐。

他从小就是个调皮捣蛋的孩子，尤其与老爸不和。大学没念完就只身到西部发展，连名字都改成了Denver （科罗拉多州府）, 他最向往的西部城市。

他先到洛杉矶。开始是加入一些不是很有名的乐队，不久就出来单干了。1969年，他出了单干后出的第一张唱片。里面乏善可陈，但有一首歌却相当不错，那就是 Leaving on a Jet Plane，写的是一个年轻人对就要离别的爱人的恋恋不舍和对前途未定的些许担忧。这应该是他当时心境的真实写照。

1970年，他搬到朝思暮想的科罗拉多的滑雪圣地 Aspen, 从此，以第二张唱片为转折点， 他的歌唱事业开始腾飞。

这张唱片里好评如潮的是那首 Take Me Home, Country Roads：

Almost heaven, west virginia
Blue ridge mountains
Shenandoah river -
Life is old there
Older than the trees
Younger than the mountains
Growing like a breeze
。。。

他是一只山鹰，喜欢过远离喧嚣的平静而古老的生活。山是他的家，他的母亲，他的最爱。

接下来，前半个70年代，他的事业终于到了巅峰状态。 这段时期的好歌包括 Rocky Mountain High。这首歌把他对科罗拉多州，尤其是洛基山的爱展现得淋漓尽致。他觉得到科罗拉多就象回家，感到自己就象再生了一次：

He was born in the summer of his 27th year
Coming home to a place he’d never been before
He left yesterday behind him, you might say he was born again
You might say he found a key for every door
。。。

他的音质饱满，丰富，明亮，象极了西部的阳光。

说起来你都不会相信，这样一首歌居然被 FCC (Federal Communications Commission) 短暂禁播，就因为里面的那个High字，说它提倡吸毒。我看FCC倒是真的 high过头了。

他有一段时间情绪低落，想写一首feeling-blue的歌，于是就有了这首 Sunshine on My Shoulders:

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy
Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely
Sunshine almost always makes me high
。。。

你看，又”high”了。

曲调是有点蓝，歌词却没有多少悲伤。呵呵，何以解忧？唯有阳光！

1974年John 和老婆Annie其实已经分居。那年冬天他独自一人到瑞士滑雪，和一帮北欧美女玩得正High的时候，不知怎地就想起Annie:

歌词里却没有提到Annie的名字，唱给谁都行。难怪婚礼上都放这首歌。

她们的婚姻真的有点奇怪，婚后多年无子，说是John有问题，遂领养了一对子女。可是离婚后他再娶澳大利亚演员和歌手Casandra Delaney, 却生了个女儿。这事情真够玄，John是不是被带了绿帽啊？不过也许是中医的功劳。我有个朋友就是回国一趟，吃几剂中药，回来后果然就有了。可John去中国是92年10月，那时他和 Casandra 已经离婚了呀。

最后一首，My Sweet Lady:

不多说了。这是我要唱给那谁听的。那谁，你听到了吗？哈哈！

终其一生 John 热爱西部生活，热爱他脚下的土地和那上面生活着的每个生灵。他的后半生全力投身于慈善事业，为保护环境和救济穷人做了很多工作。

他和不久前刚刚去世的 Steve Irwin 都对我们赖以生存的大自然有灼热的爱。Steve 整天通过与动物打交道传递他的爱；John却喜欢用歌声讴歌他脚下的土地。

巧的是他们俩最后都以大海为归宿。

九年前的秋天，一架 Long-EZ 私人小飞机由于燃料用完，象一只精疲力竭的雄鹰，一头扎进了北加州 Monterey Bay 外的大海。

那架双座飞机上只有 John Denver 一人.
