我把我每次租车时的疑问整理了一下，这几种情况下我该怎样做?
--自己的车有全保，(comprehensive car insurance) ，既保被我撞的车也保自己的车。
1. 我是否就可以放心的TURN DOWN the insurance waiver from rental car company?
Yes, your own insurance covers the damage to the rental car. If you cause damage to the rental car, the rental car company will file claim with your insurance company.
2. 假定车祸是我的责任，我的保险公司是否完全按我买的policy理赔我租的车和被我撞的车?
Up to the policy maximum. They will go back and forth with the claimants (the rental car company, and the other party that you hurt.) Your insurance company will verify the accident many times with you, required police report, etc etc The fraud prevention dept of your insurance company also will call you, probably more than once, to make sure there is no fraud involved.
3. 信用卡的保险这时候有什么作用，是否可做SECONDARY，比如为我付deductible?
Yes.
4。如果我不TURN DOWN the insurance waiver from rental car company，租车公司的liability，我自己保险的policy, 和信用卡提供的policy, 这3方的保险怎样协调?
They dont work with each other - if you bought the full CDW, you dont have any further responsibility. Credit Card policy is completely out of picture, even your own car insurance.
--我自己的车只有liability insurance，就是我在撞别人时，只负责别人的车和人，不管我自己的车
1。在这种情况下，我是否无论如何要买租车公司的全保?
2。信用卡的保险这时候有什么作用?
No. Turn down the CDW. Your credit card insurance becomes your PRIMARY - you need to make sure how your own credit card works - remember to read all the fine prints. You should have a benefit book from your card company and you can call them to ask for a copy of the insurance policy. There is a maximum of the amount involved. In MC Plantinum case, it is $50,000 maximum. Also it only covers rental period no longer than 30 days. It also EXCLUDES certain countries - I believe Turkey, Israel, and may be Italy, there is no coverage provided by Credit Card.
The only way to know is to read your own credit card's benefit book and the fine print. DONT trust what others tell you as who knows what card you hold. Each card is different. Many many cards DONT HAVE COVERAGE AT ALL !
--以我的名义租的车，没加别的driver，但是在别人开的时候出了车祸(我方的责任) ，我和driver的麻烦都是什么?
NEVER NEVER DO THAT. You will be in deep trouble as you VOID the rental contract.
In some states, spouses are automatic additional drivers, such as in CA. Not every state is like that. Always always ask if spouse is automatic, and does it need to add his/her name on the contract.
Other than that, if you need additional driver, ADD his/her name on the contract, and pay the damn additional daily charge. Dont save 5 bucks a day and then lose 10,000 bucks in case you have an accident.
