Carnival owns lots other lines, Princess, Holland America, Wind Star, Cunard (QE2) and a bunch others. But they dont own Royal Caribbean.
For older people, Princess may be a better fit than Royal Caribbean which tends to attract very active crowd as they are "Go Out There" - Rock climbing on the ship, Ice Skating Ring on some ships, etc.
Carnival itself also tends to attract younger crowd, 20 to 30 something.
If you are bringing your parents, I think Princess is the best choice - middle of the road, not as elderly people oriented as Holland America.
I think what you mean "Windy Season" is Hurricane Season. Hurricane Season starts from July thru November. During that time, ships often are forced to change itineraries, sometimes cannot depart on time, or return to port on time. This year, Florida had a very late season Hurricane Wilma - which had caused massive power outage and cruiseships cannot return to either Ft.Lauderdale or Miamia for 2 days. just to give you an idea.
