goes like this:
Mar - Nov: hiking every weekend a different trail
May-Oct: hiking, sailing, fishing, crabbing, clamming, kayaking, scuba diving, golfing, rock climbing, etc. every weekend or any combination of the above.
July-Sept: all of the above and the worst-doing nothing (i.e. lying on the beach sunbathing)
Nov. - March: skiing (x-country or downhill) or snow shoeing (if there is enough rain and we pray there is plenty). That doesn't mean we ski in the rain (when it rains in lowland, it snows in the mountains, a short drive away).

By the way, the rain is not like you said. It rarely rains all day in winter. Most of the time (even in winter), it comes and goes. As my quotable saying goes:"somewhere in the northwest, you can always find a ray of sunshine any time of the year guaranteed. You just have to know where to find it."
