想直接问abc关于ugly的意思，请大家帮忙改一下英文

In the past few days, a video clip is widely spread across Australian Chinese community, which is cut from ABC News a few days ago.

In the news, your correspond John Taylor from Beijing said in air: “There were no more anti-japan protests in China today, but the ugly face of Chinese hostility has been revealed…”

Here, can I ask you give me a formal explanation of his using of the word ugly?

We all know the common meaning of ugly, like, if I say John Taylor is very ugly, I don’t what he will react. Maybe he meant something else in his speaking. But at least, his words have brought great confusion to the whole Australian Chinese community.
