From the articles, as I said before, the Russians did heaveily influence even directly controlled CCP in the beginning. CCP was nothing at that time, but slowly begin to build more militarily. A weak CCP cannot go against the strong Russian counterpart. Only a strong CCP later did go against them. So you see, it is all about the strength and power of one's military coupled with politics to make peace/chaos in the world. PRC and ROC both did lived under the shadow of Russia and US in their Cold War. Russia used CCP and US used KMT.
I may have mistaken your words from before (too short words from you). You were talking about DDP, not CCP. You are right that DDP can seek friends that can help, of course you also need to see the "heart" of that "friend" to know what exact motive they have to help you. Russia helped CCP but in the end took much land after CCP "revolted". The same thing can happen to DDP if they are not careful in what kind of "friends" they are dealing with.
Anyway this whole point from me did start from my mistake of your short sentence, sorry.
