Partially agree.

I like this article although I do not completely agree with the views. I agree with the views in the first part of the article regarding 律诗. But I disagree with some of the views in the second half of the article. First, there were repeated sentences in Mao’s poems but they were talking about the same things in different angles. Repeating is part of a technique called emphasis, just like those last notes in the Beijing opera. Second, I think it has to do with the purpose of the poems. To me, poetry is a tool primarily to express oneself. As a consequence, it is also a tool to influence people. If the primary two purposes are served, then it is a good poem. I guess Mao never intended to write the poems for publication purposes. Otherwise he probably would spend more time on wording. If he did, I wonder the poems would still have the same projecting power as they are now.
