Buy a Hardwired Interconnected, Smoke detector, do it right

1) make sure you have 110V between back and white.
2) if you don't have power, then use battery powered smoke detector
3) buy hardwired interconnected smoke detector.
First Alert AC Hardwired 120-Volt Smoke Detector
4) turn off 110V power, cut the old connector, put new connector with wire nut.
5) the red wire is interconnection to other detector.

one of my rental is classified as commercial, and AC hardwired interconnected smoke detectors are required by local code.
