I think you handle it very well.

The standard is to carry yourself professionally, and you did exactly that.

IMHP, the way your LD handles it has both pros and cons. Some people would think of him lacking principles or being weak or both. As a result, they will not put trust in him. If his boss or an important team member thinks this way, it is not good for your LD's career.

Of course, it is another story if your LD holds significant leverages.
