All depends on timing & location

2010-11: housing hit bottom one can pick almost everything in the city;
2012-13: stock market hit homerun most 30-50% of return;
2014 - another bull market (so far) for stock market, especially Nasdaq has room to grow to all time high of 5000 points;
2015 - tightening your belt - FED is going to raise rate that is going to hit both housing and stock. Maybe time for bond to shine.
