Your writings are always fun to read. You have set a bar too high for me to write anything close to yours. So I'll list a quick summary of my portfolio below (at year-end):

401k ---------------------- $444,000
Self-managed investment --- $946,000
Real Estate --------------- $200,000
Cash ---------------------- $155,000
Total --------------------- $1,745,000

'07 weighted average return: 22.70%
It has been tough so far in 08, as my YTD return is a negative 7%. At a volatile time like this, I feel my investment is too broad to allow me to manage effectively: I have over 20 mutual funds for my 401k, and over 30 stocks/ETFs for my own investment, of which I over-weigh the emerging markets even though I have trimmed somewhat this year. With investment scattering all over the places, it becomes very hard to sneak in and out even when I see opportunities.

I have a 3-yr, $5M plan, but the way we spent, we may not get there.
