You need to pay capital gains tax on the realized capital gains. For the 20% ownership interest, the original cost is $20K. You sell it for $100K, you have a capital gains of $80K. Depending on your income level and assuming you started your firm more than 1 year ago, you could face tax rate from 15% to 23.8%.
