Although the house can not create value, it transfers value from other people to my pocket. As I am not a rich person, I don't have needs to keep my money's value, but I do have needs to get rich. What can I do other then go to work every day? I borrow money to buy houses, and rent them out. Recently, I snapped a deal in Vancouver BC, which I fully borrowed money, and rental covers everything with $100 positive. Maybe it is laughable for US landlords, but it is good for Vancouver market. After 35 years, even the house price drops half, since it will fully paid out by rental income, I still win at the end, because when I started, I have nothing but end up with a house which can bring me rental every month.
This is called "Other People's Money". I don't know why murmur.on.hudson can not see this concept. I guess he either does not understand real estate at all, or simply wants to confuse people so that he can sell his book.
