3月份美国消费者信心意外上升至近三年来的最高水平，部分原因是人们认为通胀将缓解。

密歇根大学基准消费者信心指数终值从 2 月份的 76.9 升至 79.4，为 2021 年 7 月以来的最高水平。路透社对经济学家进行的民意调查显示，该数字超过了一致预期的 76.5，该数字与两周前发布的 3 月份初步预期相同。

消费者对当前状况和经济前景的评估均较 3 月中旬和 2 月终值有所改善。

对一年内通胀的预期从 2 月份的 3.0% 降至 2.9%，与 1 月份的读数持平，这是 2020 年 12 月以来的最低水平。在五年内，消费者预计通胀率从去年的 2.9% 降至 2.8%月。

March 28 (Reuters) - U.S. consumer sentiment rose unexpectedly in March to the highest in nearly three years thanks in part to growing confidence that inflation will keep softening.
The University of Michigan's benchmark Consumer Sentiment Index rose to a final reading for the month of 79.4, the highest since July 2021, from February's 76.9. It topped consensus estimates of 76.5 in a Reuters poll of economists, which had been the same as the preliminary March estimate released two weeks ago.  

  Consumer assessments of both current conditions and the economic outlook both improved from the March mid-month and February final readings. Expectations for inflation over a one-year horizon declined to 2.9% from 3.0% in February to match January's reading, which had been the lowest since December 2020. Over a five-year horizon, consumers saw inflation easing to 2.8% from 2.9% last month.

 

The S&P 500 posted its strongest first-quarter performance in five years on Thursday despite U.S. stocks closing little-changed.
