1997年10月12日，丹佛驾驶的Long-EZ两人座飞机坠毁在加州Grove镇的太平洋海岸，当时丹佛离起飞于蒙特瑞潘尼苏拉机场不久即失事。
当时丹佛所驾驶的Long-EZ飞机，为两人座试验性飞机，70年代由巴特·鲁坦设计而成。不过丹佛所独有的飞机，机身编号N555JD，则是丹佛买来使用，并且针对鲁坦原先的出版设计有些改变：燃油阀控制器搬动位置，原先置于起落架控制杆尾部以及飞行员双腿之间，搬至驾驶员后方以及左前方的舱壁上。
